The Importance of Grounding.

Flying starts from the ground. The more grounded you are, the higher you fly.

Staying grounded is extremely important for various reasons. Some of the biggest ones being that if you are ungrounded you can begin to experience a disconnect from reality, lack of self confidence, and a general feeling of instability. People who are ungrounded tend to be disconnected from their bodies and may have trouble living in the now moment. With all of these possibilities and more at play, it can be very difficult to get a grip on what’s happening around you and to be able to process emotions and feelings in a healthy way. In most cases grounding is the first step on a healing journey. We want to have that stable connection to earth and our bodies so that if something unsettling comes your way you won’t be knocked on your ass. Having a strong connection to your body gives you the self-confidence needed to stand in your power when you find challenges along your path. I want to share with you some great ways to stay grounded and some tools that can assist you in the process!

Grounding Your Space

A great way to stay grounded is to keep your safe space as clutter-free and clean as possible. Clutter attracts dense/negative energies and stores them until it is cleaned up. My favorite ways to bring grounding earth energy into a space are plants and crystals!

House Plant Homies

House plants bring such a lovely feel to your home. Plants are personal air purifiers and bring a special liveliness to any space. Because plants need to be watered they help us to slow down and be more mindful. Some of my favorite house plants are monstera deliciosa, silver splash pothos, alocasia poly, and pepperomia pilea! And of course if you are like me your plant collection might grow out of control!

Grounding Crystals

Crystals are a whole conversation on their own! For this situation the best crystals are going to be the ones related to earth/grounding energies! These include jasper, black tourmaline, obsidian, tigers eye, and onyx just to name a few. Crystals hold pure energy within them and have their own unique qualities as well! Just placing them mindfully throughout your house will bring an automatic shift of energy and in turn help you feel more grounded and stable.

Practices for Grounding Your Energies

Incorporating practices into our routines can be a great help as they introduce constants into our lives. Having these constants gives us that stability that we oftentimes lack in other areas of our lives. Here are a few practices I’ve benefited from immensely: meditation, hiking, eating clean, journaling, and connecting to my body.

Meditation

Meditation in many ways is a must when it comes to spiritual practice! It doesn’t even have to be a prolonged amount of time either! Just simply 10 minutes, sitting in a quiet comfortable place, and allowing your thoughts to flow until your mind clears. Often times you’ll receive important messages from spirit during this time or it can simply serve as YOU time! Many claim they people have trouble with meditation, when really meditation is the practice of doing nothing. If thoughts come up and you are having difficulty focusing this is for you: allow the thought to come into your mind, thank the thought for coming up and show your mind gratitude for the reminder and just lightly let it go! Do this until your mind is all clear find yourself sitting in the moment. Pro tip: meditate with grounding crystals for quick results!

Connecting to Your Body

Another useful practice for grounding yourself is connecting to your body! This can be done in various ways and I recommend finding a way that resonates with you the most. My favorite way of practicing this is during the beginning of my meditations by really feeling myself anchored in my body, and setting the intention to live in the here and now.  Other ways of connecting to your body are taking a long hot bath, exercising, verbalizing affirmations and doing a quick stretch each morning! A big theme with all these practices is SELF-LOVE! Taking care of yourself is a huge step in the right direction when it comes to living presently. Take time for yourself and make sure your own needs are met before stepping out into the world and I promise you will feel such a huge difference!

The Root/Muladhara Chakra

The root chakra is our 1st energy center also known as base chakra. The root chakra is associated with the hips and below. This chakra is responsible for our feeling of grounded-ness, safety, security and stability. Keeping this chakra balanced is very important in staying grounded on your spiritual path. Many spiritualists neglect this chakra as they perceive it as less important than the upper chakras. This is very untrue and in many ways it’s the exact opposite. In order to further develop any of your upper chakras you have to have a solid foundation! All of the things mentioned thus far can assist in keeping this chakra balanced, some additional things are eating lots of fruits and veggies, connecting with nature, and practicing yoga.

Put the Phone Down

This is one of the most important parts of living in the present moment! When you spend extended periods of time using your phone it takes you out of reality and distracts you from experiencing your current state of being. The more time you spend on your phone means the more time you need to spend grounding yourself. A great way to practice this is to put your phone away anytime you’re spending time with friends, family or even when you are having YOU time!
